The France national under-16 football team is the national under-16 football team of France and is controlled by the French Football Federation. The team previously competed in the annual UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship before it was converted into an under-17 competition in 2002. The under-16 team competes in regional tournaments, such as the Tournoi de Val-de-Marne and the Montaigu Tournament and international tournaments, such as the Aegean Cup in Turkey. France are currently the five-time defending champions of the Aegean Cup. Prior to the UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship being converted into an under-17 event, France never won the competition, but finished as runner-ups on two occasions in 1996 and 2001. The latter team was considered the best scoring 17 goals and conceding only one goal, which came in the final against Spain. However, of the 18 players that played on the team, only one has played in the senior national team; winger Florent Sinama-Pongolle. Three players; Emerse Faé, Hassan Yebda, and Mourad Meghni have played for other national teams for which they were eligible. The 2012–13 international under-16 campaign began on 18 September 2012 and the current coach of the team is Jean-Claude Giuntini, a former football player. Prior to coaching for the French Football Federation, Giuntini had a domestic coaching tenure at ESA Brive from 1986–1995. The current captain of the team has yet to be determined. == Players ==
